I'm from Bristol a city with a proud heritage albeit with the notable exception of the slave trade. One of the things we Bristolians do possess is a bit of a mischievous sense of humour which often involves taking the mickey out of surrounding towns. Unfortunately Swindon has long been the recipient of a lot of remarks although in fairness they have often been made by people who are actually from the town, most notably Mark Lamarr. I guess its a bit like when you are running down a member of your family and if your partner joins in you rush to the family member's defence arguing that its ok for you to criticise them but no-one else. Having said that I have been to Swindon on a number of occasions and I have to agree with the sentiments expressed by Andy Partridge the former lead singer of Swindon band XTC. You'll have to look these up for yourself. Despite the amount of criticism Swindon has received, a fair amount of celebrities and stars including the late actress Diana Dors were born there. Who can forget the likes of Melinda Messenger who proved she had hidden talents whilst working at a local Direct Mail company before going on to more dubious fame. Swindon has a strong railway tradition and was chosen by Isambard Brunel as the location for his Great Western Railway (GWR) works. Part of the site still remains and is the home of the steam railway museum. Since the demise of the railways and the overall decline in British manufacturing industry Swindon became a centre of commerce with a lot of financial companies relocating from London to provincial towns and cities in order to reduce costs. As a result Swindon became a boom town in the eighties and nineties and even attempted to boost its importance by applying for City status. Unfortunately this proved to be unsuccessful but Swindon did succeed in drawing manufacturing back in the form of Honda. This was a real coup for the area and for Britain as a whole which didn't have the best reputation when it came to car manufacturing. We seem to be able to build some of the best cars in the world when it comes to hand crafting luxury or sports models for the rich and famous. When it comes to knocking out utilitarian vehicles for the masses you could guarantee production would last for about half an hour before some kind of industrial dispute would develop. Honda took a big risk then and entrusted the manufacture of its successful Civic model which had been selling well since 1973 believe it or not. Honda had a brief encounter with Triumph who were part of British Leyland and some pretty ropey cars briefly appeared badged as Triumph and then Rover. Since then two million cars have rolled off the production line at Swindon including about a million Civics. I must admit that personally I wasn't a big fan of the Civic especially since the time I arrived back to a car park to find a collection of intellectually challenged young men attempting to remove the spoiler from the roof of my Mitsubishi Colt. They were then proposing to attach it somehow to their Honda Civic although as the spoiler was bolted to the roof they just succeeded in causing about £500 worth of damage to my car. I have since recovered from this and must say that the latest version of the Civic and come to think of it the one before are very stylish cars. I do still find it intriguing that the appeal of the Civic seems to be divided between those in their twenties and people above retirement age. Honda is no doubt aware of this but even the retro triangular designs of the latest Civic seem to work for young and old. The Civic shows no sign of losing its appeal though and long may it continue. There is no doubt that the Honda plant in Swindon has contributed significantly to the prosperity of the town.

Are you sold on the idea of buying a hybrid car? If so, what type are you going for? the phrase 'hybrid car' covers several different versions of the 'hybrid' process model. People already have a number of variables in mind as they make their way to the dealer, make, model, style, color etc., and now they have to also consider what they exactly want from their hybrid car. The affect of yet more choice on customers may go either way. Often purchasers are already blown away with the range of colors and accessories offered to them. Now, they face this fact: They have to choose between several different types of hybrid cars. Of course a person is expected to choose the hybrid car that most meets his requirements. We therefore need to review the different types of hybrid cars available. First type: The full hybrid Theoretically this is the best of the bunch of hybrid types. This type of hybrid car can provide motive power to drive the car forward once the wheels have started turning. A full hybrid provides this power output without using any gasoline assisted power whatsoever through this phase. Thus the conventional gasoline driven part of the unit is used merely to get movement underway. Second type: The parallel hybrid car The parallel hybrid is fitted with both a conventional gasoline engine and an electric motor. A gasoline tank supplies the conventional engine and rechargeable batteries supply the electric motor. Both motors provide motive force to drive the vehicle forward. Third type: The series hybrid car The series hybrid has a gasoline driven engine that in turn drives a generator. The output from the generator is used in one of two ways. It either provides a power supply directly to the motor or as a charging facility for the batteries. These batteries then provide power to the electric motor that propels the transmission. Thus in the series hybrid car, the gasoline fuelled conventional engine is never directly used to provide motive power to propel the vehicle forward. The current marketplace for hybrid cars only offers parallel hybrid models. Some current concept cars should fall into the series hybrid category, but for some reason auto manufacturers appear reluctant to acknowledge the fact. It would take a braver person than me to claim Oil Company influence here, so I will not go there. Suffice to say, the public is left to guess the exact types of hybrid car being offered in the future. Yet another type?: The plug-in hybrid car Now here's a thing. Just as the average automotive consumer was understanding the difference between the electric car that you plugged in and the hybrid car that you did not, along comes the plug-in hybrid car! Your guess is as good as mine as to whether this is a serious development or just a throw away line by some smart marketing executive. In looking at the ranges currently available and what manufacturers are involved with which type of hybrid car, When thinking about what manufacturers make each type of hybrid car, fuelled hybrids would be represented by the Lexus, Toyota and Ford. Whilst Honda and Saturn hybrid cars however cannot be called full hybrids despite the advertising claims that you may come across. As always, auto manufacturers have provided these different types of hybrid cars to give people more options and more ideas. Within these variations should be something to satisfy everyone that is interested in driving a hybrid car. Everyone should of course choose their target purchase of a hybrid car to align with their personal taste, budget and driving needs. Clearly, some of the hybrid car models are more costly than others. Some people want all the latest accessories, others are happy to go with basic models. It is nice to have the choice though isn't it? Over the years, the industry has shown that people often change their view on what they want from a car. The introduction of the hybrid car has not changed that fact. Clearly then, as people do change their view on hybrid cars, the automotive industry has demonstrated its readiness to respond.

Coming in with some newer models is the 2008 Honda Civic. Body styles are the usual 2 door coupe and 4 door sedans. Being included in the sedan line is a gas/electric Hybrid model. In both sedans and coupes are the DX, LX, and EX models. New models in 2008 is the EX-L, Si trim and the Civic MUGEN Si sedan. Available only to New York and California markets is the Civic GX. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration front crash test rating gave five stars to both driver and passenger fronts. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave 4 star ratings (4 star being the highest) across the board in all areas it judges minus a 3 star for driver torso. The MUGEN Si has Twin-Ring Motegi track- tuned suspension with stiffer springs and firmer dampers. BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW High grip tires (215/40R18) surround the forged aluminum rims (18 x 7.5 inches). It comes with is a "Cat-Back" sport exhaust system. With the added aero-package you get front spoiler and sports grill, side spoilers, rear diffuser, and adjustable rear wing. Under the hood you'll find the 122 cubic inch, 197 hp, 2.0 liter, 16 valve inline 4 engine. It has an aluminum block and head with port fuel injection. Torque is 139 pounds per foot at 6200 rpm, maxing out at 8000. It'll go 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. Transmission is a 6 speed manual. Wheelbase is 106.3 inches. Brakes are ABS and vented disc/disc on the front wheel drive. There is only planned for a release of only 1,000 per year with a MSRP for this model of Civic starting in at $30,000
Standard features on the 4 door sedan or the 2 door coupe EX-L model include Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) with airbag cutoff sensor for the passenger controlled by weight in the seat, electronic brake force distribution and in-glass radio antenna. EX-L models come with heated front seats and leather upholstery. Seats 5 passengers and is available in 12 trims.
Engine specs come in at 110 cubic inch, 140 hp, 1.8 liter, 16 valve inline 4 cylinder. Torque comes in at 128 pounds per feet at 4,000 rpm. Only a 5 speed transmission here that's manual or automatic front wheel drive with navigation system and standard overdrive. Wheelbase for the EX-L is 106.3 inches. Also coming standard is the ABS. MSRP for this model $19,910.
The 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid is loaded with standard features including but not limited to XM satellite radio, OPDS, and tire pressure monitor just to name a few.
This gas/electric hybrid is at 110 hp combining both gas and electric requiring no plug-in charging. When you need a boost to your acceleration the electric motor will kick in automatically. It's got a 110 hp, 1.3liter, 8 valve inline 4 cylinder with a VAR speed automatic transmission. Torque for this model is only 123 pounds per foot at 2500 rpm when running on gas or electric. The 15 inch tires on the Hybrid are stopped by disc brakes in the front and drum in the rear. Comes with independent suspension all around on this front wheel drive. MSRP for this model starts in at $22,600.
With the last of the newer models is the GX. The 2007 model was named greenest car of the year. This car runs on compressed natural gas.
This models standard engine specs are 1.8 liter, 113 hp inline 4 cylinder with multi port fuel injection. It is accompanied with a 5 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Torque comes in at 109 pounds per foot at 4300 rpm.
This front wheel drive has disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear. 15 inch wheels are all around the car with a wheel base of 106.3 MSRP starts off at $24,590. Hondas Civic DX is the basic version. This 16 valve, 1.8 liter, 4 cylinder engine has a multi port fuel injection system pushing torque to 128 pounds per foot at 4,300 rpms. You can get the 5 speed transmission in either 5 speed automatic or manual.
The DX is riding on 15 inch all season wheels with and independent suspension containing front struts and a rear double wishbone. For stopping the ABS brakes have electric brakeforce distribution among the two disk brakes that are ventilated and drum in the rear. This car is available in both coupe and sedan with a starting MSRP at $15,010.
The first upgrade to the DX is the LX. It upgrades feature including cruise control, air conditioning, and a more powerful audio system as well as other features not seen on the compact class.
The Lx caries the same engine as the DX. The ABS brakes are the same as well. MSRP start is at $16,960.
The EX goes above and beyond in with the features over that of either the DX or Lx. Some of these features are alloy wheels, moonroof, 60/40 split fold down rear seat. You can also get an available navigation system.
Once again like the LX the EX caries the same engine and brakes as the DX. MSRP starts off at $18, 710.

It's funny what you remember about your childhood. Ask me what I had for my eighth birthday or where I went on holiday when I was eleven and I honestly cannot remember. Despite forgetting the large, important milestones in my life however, I can still remember the night I closed my eyes and thought I'd opened them two seconds later only to have slept for ten hours, or when I scored a dipping volley off the crossbar playing football up the park. Another useless memory is accompanying my dad around every conceivable car showroom on his quest to find the latest family car. I remember getting very excited about a Volvo with pop up headlights, a Chrysler Neon because it accelerated far quicker than it had any right to and a Honda NSX which the dealer informed me I could have if I worked hard at school. Well Mr Honda dealer I did and it appears you've forgotten my NSX because my driveway is looking sparse. The Honda dealer must've impressed my dad though, because once we'd clambered out of the NSX my dad bought the next best thing to a Ferrari rivalling super car - a Honda Civic. I must admit that despite this drastic step down the car ladder I was over the moon. The Civic in question had leather seats, electric everything, alloy wheels, air conditioning, CD player and Pearle sent paint that glowed green, purple, blue and everything in-between. As we left the Honda dealer I'm sure you can picture the scene, my dad sitting tall and proud behind the wheel with me looking up at the great man, swinging my legs as I teetered on the edge of the leather upholstery, straining to peer over the dashboard. And then it happened. The drive to see my grandparents yielded approximately fifteen Hondas, mostly Civics, that were all driven by post retirement folk. "Dad, why is everyone in a Honda grey?" came my cry to which my dad could only twiddle some electric buttons to cheer me up but it was too late. Honda was soiled, Honda was un cool and Honda was not a boyhood dream anymore. It takes a lot to win back my faith and trust but a few years ago I was watching television and saw every single part that makes up a Honda Accord clunk and clatter into one another in a domino/crazy inventor's laboratory way and was blown away. Another advert had a diesel engine being smashed to smithereens by cartoon rabbits and then there was Jacques Villeneuve, my favourite formula one driver. His car was a Honda and he was really cool, the adverts were cool and at the age of eighteen my love of the Honda brand was restored. The power of the brand is one thing, having the cars to match is quite another. Happily your local Honda dealer can oblige with the simply stunning Honda Civic Type R. Originally a Japanese edition, the Civic Type R (that'll be Type Racing) finally made it to our shores in 2001 and became one of the biggest selling and best performance hatchbacks not only in the noughties, but in the history of motoring. A bold statement yes, but a truthful one. A 2.0 litre VTEC engine gave 197bhp and 0-60 in 6.6 seconds, all for £16,000 and things have just gone space age with the latest offering. The only criticism with the older model was that if you looked past the 17 inch alloy wheels it essentially looked like the standard car. The new Civic Type R however cannot be missed. It's still all triangles like the base model, but features deep front and rear bumpers, huge 18 inch alloys, and a growling bonnet bulge. Racing seats hold you in place and there's plenty of 'Type R' badges dotted around in case you forget you're in a special car. A high roof spoiler does just that to your rear view but looks fantastic and the car also features twin triangular exhaust that gracefully emerge from the rear bumper. My favourite feature has to be the speedometer which changes colour the higher the revs go, and boy does it rev, all the way onto 8,000rpm. The exceptional VTEC engine remains the same 197bhp as before, which means that the only grey haired people you'll see driving one were turned that colour with the whiplash inducing acceleration.

How good would it be if all cars were that quiet and the busy hustle and bustle sounds of traffic became a thing of the past?The one concern with the hybrid car and its reduced noise is that it is so quiet that you can hardly hear it coming. This has become a concern for some people and in particular a concern for blind people who rely on noise to hear a car coming.With cars that are so quiet, blind people need to be even more cautious when crossing roads. Most traffic lights do have beeping equipment for the blind and many blind people do have guide dogs with them and if they do take that extra caution when crossing roads they should be fine.The question has been asked though, for safety reasons should the hybrid car perhaps have a sound of its own so that a blind person can distinguish the sound of the car coming? Should hybrid cars have a minimum noise standard that they should meet?The noise doesn’t have to be loud but just something distinctive enough to make them safer for pedestrians would be good.The quietness of the hybrid is very welcomed by many people however as the new peaceful sound of the motor world. So if you hate traffic noise perhaps you should look into a hybrid car and help reduce noise pollution.

We all know, in basic terms what a hybrid is all about and what some of the advantages are, but do we really know how they work and why they work? Let's take a closer look at that question starting with Honda's Civic hybrid as an example. To make it simple we have a vehicle with a gasoline powered engine much like any other. Added to that, is an auxiliary electric motor that functions to keep the gasoline motor working at a minimum. The electric motor needs some type of power supply to make it function, enter the hybrid system battery which is in addition to the normal 12 volt vehicle battery. Now, we have all the basic components covered so lets get a little deeper into how all these parts work in harmony to power your hybrid vehicle.
We have to think about how and when the IMA system in a Civic hybrid is functioning. There are 2 modes that are used when you're in the car. Either the System is in charge mode working to recharge the hybrid system battery or it is in assist mode where the electric motor is being used to power the vehicle.
How does it work? "Assist"
Now, jump in your hybrid and let's take a look at how things get going. Turning the key to start your Civic hybrid is about the only step that would be comparable to a conventional car. Instead of a starter, your Civic uses the electric motor that is positioned between the gasoline engine and the transmission to get things turning. Now your up and running and heading for the grocery store, your watching that fancy little gauge that shows whether the car is charging or assisting and how much. Your climbing that hill and notice it indicates full assist, good thing since that little gas motor doesn't really like accelerating too quickly on its own.
How does it work? "Charge"
Well, lets pretend that hill was really long and now you've spent a good amount of the energy stored in the hybrid system battery. On the way down your gauge shows full charge mode because the car is using something called regenerative braking to charge the battery back up again for the next hill. Basically, instead of throwing away all the energy that's lost while decelerating or braking, we use regenerative braking to recapture and store some of that energy for when we need that assist function again.
How does it work? "Autostop"
When we come up to a stoplight right before the grocery store, it turns red and we stop. When we stop a Civic hybrid it goes into autostop mode, where the gasoline engine shuts down completely. The unique thing about hybrids is some of your traditional features are electric now instead of mechanical. So, when your sitting at the red light, your air conditioning, audio system, and other comforts continue to work as they would if you were idling there burning gas in a conventional vehicle. Now, when the light turns green and we are off to the races again, you step on the gas peddle and seamlessly the gasoline engine is back up and running. Remember, there is not a normal starter, so it functions just like when you go to start your hybrid.
So what do i get out of it? "Advantages"
With all this back and forth between charging and assisting we find our savings on fuel. We get the advantage of using wasted energy to charge our battery instead of having to plug into an outlet every night. We get the convenience of filling up at normal gas stations, but less often. The biggest advantage when talking about hybrids is, you can walk out to your driveway, get in your car, and head on down the road just as conveniently as you could in a gas only car. Nothing is drastically different from a drivers standpoint, you will not need to get used to a new routine of plugging your car in or trying to find some obscure alt-fuel station.

One of the most prestigious Formula One teams which is ran by the Japanese maker Honda; has recently presented their new car for the scheduled F1 season which will soon began.
The Honda Racing Team had its beginnings back in 1963 with a very significant breakthrough as the team's early success unveiled the potential of the machines they were developing as well as the talent shown by the American drivers.
If we go back in time through Honda's history there have been several car models used; some of which have and have not brought triumphs to the team among these we can mention the first of its kind the RA271 (1962) which placed the team at the podium step at the Mexican Grand Prix of 1965. This one was followed by the RA273 but its chassis was relatively heavy; therefore the experts came up with the Honda RA300 which received the nickname "Hondola" by the media due to being partly designed in the United Kingdom. Subsequently to the years of absence from the racing world Honda took a turn to return and re-enter the Formula One territory as an engine supplier for big names such as: McLaren, Lotus, Williams for more less a decade (1983 to 1992). Then more recently in 2005 Honda emerged as a new racing force under the name Honda Racing F1 Team with their latest model RA806 which unfortunately did not excel the expectations throughout the season.
For the 2007 season Honda tried a different strategy introducing the RA107 which was suppose to be an environment-friendly machine but its flaws were countless starting with aerodynamic problems besides the lack of speed and pace. These facts made both drivers Britton Jenson Buttona and Brazilian Rubens Barrichello struggle to remain within the top ten.
For this 2008 season the Honda team is ready to put behind all sorts of disappointments by introducing the new model RA108 which was presented and tested just last week in Valencia, Spain. Their main purpose is to keep progressing on the environment pollution-free idea which they assure has marked most of the designs and improvements.
"This year we've concentrated on making the down force as useable as possible. Doing this will have all sorts of effects. The car will slide less, that will save tyres, and that makes a big difference" said New team principal Ross Brawn. Japanese automakers have been known for their reliable vehicles which have become the favorite of most consumers. This can be clearly seen in the United States auto market where market share of Japanese automakers continue to increase while the Big Three's decline. This trend is not only seen in the United States though as according to J.D. Power and Associates, Honda and Toyota dominated the 2007 South Africa Customer Satisfaction Index.
According to The Auto Channel's report, the two Japanese automakers received top ranks more than any other automaker. For Honda, the Civic, CR-V, FR-V, and the Jazz topped their respective segments. For Toyota, the Avensis, Hilux, the Land Cruiser Prado and the Tazz received the highest rating in their classes. The Customer Satisfaction Index is a study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates to gauge the level of satisfaction of customers regarding the vehicles that they have purchased.
According to The Auto Channel, J.D. Power and Associates, the study focuses on the first 10 to 21 months of ownership. Four factors covering 77 attributes are taken into consideration to gauge the satisfaction of customers. Of the four factors, the highest weight was given to the quality and reliability of vehicles which is given a weight of 32 percent. Aesthetics is second with a weight of 29 percent. Satisfaction of customers is also based on their experiences on the dealership which is given 19 percent. Last but not least is the cost of ownership which corresponds to 20 percent.
Brian Walters, the vice president of J.D. Power and Associatesâ€™ Europe, Middle East, and Africa Operations, said that Honda and Toyota are showing their dedication to building quality vehicles. "Honda and Toyota models continue their strong performance in satisfying customers in South Africa," said Walters.
"In both 2006 and 2007, four Toyota models ranked highest in their respective segments, while Honda has led in nameplate rankings in both years. These results are a testament to the commitment to high quality that both brands demonstrate. In addition, Mercedes-Benz maintains its ranking in the top five for a second consecutive year and improves in an impressive manner since 2006," he expressed.
"The consistent improvement in overall satisfaction in the South Africa market is good news for consumers, franchised dealers and manufacturers," continued Walters. "However, there is still significant room for improvement. While customers seem to be more satisfied with vehicle quality and reliability as well as vehicle appeal, service satisfaction and ownership cost satisfaction levels are not on par." Since the introduction of the Honda City in the market it has been very successful in keeping its competition with the likes of Ford, GM, Hyundai at bay attributed to the Civic's solid brand value which has made others at the trail playing catch up.Suzuki would like to try to topple down Honda's City with its new Maruti SX4. How good is Maruti? Does it have what it takes to compete with Honda City?Let's face it not everyone are attracted to the Honda City with its protruding Honda antenna and compared to the Maruti SX4, appearance wise it looks like Angelina Jolie while the City looks more like Dr. Spock but of course Suzuki will not agree with such comparison especially since the ad campaign tagline for the Maruti is "Men are Back". But in fairness to the Maruti, it is sporty and sexy plus it has successfully hidden its hatchback roots.The SX4 has a nice flat integrated dashboard and sporty touches of chrome everywhere, which adds up to its good looks unfortunately it failed to surpass the hand feel and rich textures found on the City's interiors. But to make up for what it lacks, the SX4 has leather seats, steering remote control airbags, and pockets for bottle holders on all four-doors.In terms of exterior, it is quite obvious that the SX4 is longer, taller, and bigger. But you know Honda it won't just sit around and wait for competition to stomp over it, the engineers at Honda has made sure that the size of the Civic will not become a disadvantage. Honda's engineers have developed a backseat that can comfortably seat three people despite its being narrower than the SX4.The SX4 despite its larger size has some drawbacks like for instance the armrest in the back of protrudes into the third person's spine just imagine if sudden brakes are applied that would definitely hurt. And that's not all the tunnel in the flooring of the SX4 does not provide much legroom. It boot also loses out marginally. On the other hand the Civic despite its small size manages to pack in a lot of space with more headroom, legroom not to mention more space for the driver.In terms of driving performance the City can provide you with the regular 77 bhp or V-Tec powerplant with 100 bhp, which is very much closer to the SX4. The Maruti SX4 is powered by a new M-16 engine, which has one twin overhead cams, a driveby-wire throttle and revs up a healthy 102 bhp compared to Cuty's 77 bhp. The Maruti has also an extra 2 kgm of torque which obviously makes it much faster on the road.When it comes to accelerating from 0 to 100, the SX4 is the winner but in terms of gear now that is another story. This is because the SX4 seems to lose steam at around 5,000 rpm while the torque curve on the City is by far crispier and linear making it perfectly suitable for city driving. The Honda City has also a more refined engine.But of course the comparison doesn't end just yet both the City's and SX4's gearbox are good although the SX4 would require for a much firmer hand. On the hand the City as expected is light and easy. Over bumps and undulations the SX4's steering gets jumpy while the Honda City's steering although light to handle feels unsettling at high speeds.Driving through traffic, the SX4 and the City both scored well however the SX4 leads in terms of ground clearance where the City suffers caused by its low ground clearance. The SX4 with its 16-inch rims and 205 tires provide better grip but so does the City with its ABS. The City wins when it comes to fuel efficiency but in terms of styling and price the SX4 wins it by landslide. Now that we know the advantages of both cars it would be easier to choose which one to buy.

Honda, maker of quality Honda shocks, is hoping to avail a greater share of the Indian small car market. It is, however, unlikely to sell automobiles at the cut-rate prices that rivals Tata Motors and Renault are promising for upcoming models.
Japan's second-largest carmaker, which inaugurated its second plant in India, in the northern state of Rajasthan on Sunday, plans to roll out its first small car from the plant in 2009.
Tata Motors plans to sell a car priced at 100,000 rupees ($2,459.95) from next year that would make it India's most low-cost automobile.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said earlier this year that his company also plans to manufacture a $3,000 car for the Indian market.
However, Satoshi Aoki, Honda's Chairman, told reporters at the plant in Tapukara that building a car that is cheap would be difficult for Honda. He said their mini car in Japan costs nearly $9,000 and to produce something at one-third the cost will be rather challenging. At present, Honda controls 5.5 percent of the Indian market.
On its latest plant, the company is spending $491 million. It will have a yearly capacity of 200,000 units. Furthermore, Honda is expanding capacity at its plant in New Delhi and plans to produce 150,000 vehicles yearly by the end of 2010. Officials said that Honda's Indian small cars will contain 90 percent local parts.
Aoki said that the North American business is very important to them, but they like to add business from other markets like China, India, Southeast Asia and Brazil, so that they would not be dependent on a single market only.
Predicted to double to 2 million units by 2010 are the passenger vehicle sales in India, where 8 out of every 1,000 people own an automobile. In India, small cars account for almost 75 percent of the sales. Thus, automakers such as Suzuki and Hyundai are given the opportunity to gain a huge share of the market.
As of last year's allocation, the federal government gave a hike to small car manufacturers by trimming down excise taxes from 24 percent to 16 percent on cars shorter than 4 meters with gasoline-powered engines smaller than 1.2 liters.
Aoki continued that Honda was likely to upwardly revamp its profit forecast for the 2007 fiscal year because of the yen's overwhelming depreciation against the dollar. The yen's decline will boost repayments from markets like the U.S., which accounts for 70 percent of Honda's profits.
The Japanese company said in April that its profits would decline by about 3 percent to $4.7 billion on an anticipated appreciation of the yen and rising prices of commodities such as steel and aluminum.

Honda is the big winner in this year's Which? Car reliability study of new models. The Japanese car maker had its Jazz supermini besting the overall table with a rating from owners of 96 percent.
The Honda struts maker also either won or shared top spot in the medium car category with the previous generation Civic, the large car group with the Accord, the people-carrier section with the FR-V, and among off-roaders with the old CR-V.
Its only notable defeated player was its latest Civic which had a poor reliability rating of only 82 percent as compared to an overall average for new cars of 88 percent. The fuel system, steering and suspension were the problems that the Civic owners have reported.
Which? Car said that the least reliable new model in its survey of 93,365 motorists was the Land Rover Discovery 3 with a rating of 79 percent. It also said that other notable failures were the VW Passat, contrary to Volkswagen's renowned reliability, the Peugeot 307 and Renault Megane - all having 82 percent.
Honda also won with an overall reliability index of 86 percent in the manufacturers' league table of Which? Car. Just one point behind in second place is the giant Japanese car maker, Toyota. Behind them, 6 Far Eastern makes vied for the third place; these are Daihatsu, Hyundai, Lexus, Mazda, Subaru and Suzuki - all of which score 82 percent.
Just behind Renault and Fiat is Land Rover at the bottom of the reliability table with 68 percent.
Aside from such achievement of Honda, it also gained positive sales results. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced in July 3 that it recorded June sales of 140,935 Honda and Acura vehicles, marking a 7.3 percent increase on a daily-selling-rate basis. Having such figures, American Honda year-to-date sales totaled 766,929, up 2.1 percent.
Honda Division posted June sales of 124,169, making a 7.4 percent increase compared to last year. Achieving its sixth consecutive month of record sales, the CR--V sold 19,715, up 53.2 percent. The Civic garnered sales of 36,512, up 33.6 percent over June 2006. Also setting a new record for the month is Civic Hybrid's sales which increased 20.1 percent to 3,246. The North American International Auto Show is just around the corner. The said event is one of the biggest of its kind and it can be expected that this year's staging of the event will draw a lot of major automakers. Niche automakers like Quantum Fuel Systems will also be showcasing their newest vehicle at the forthcoming event.

Basing on the list compiled by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the most frequently stolen vehicle in Canada comes from the stable of the producer of the high quality Acura CL bumper bracket, Honda.

Richard Dubin explained that the vehicles included in the list lacks an electronic immobilizer which is a special type of security device that shuts off once or more parts of the engineâ€™s electrical system including the starter, ignition or fuel system. The device automatically disarms whenever an unauthorized security code is received in case there is an attempt to start the engine.
Mr. Dubin also added that the vehicles included in the top 10 stolen vehicles are also viewed as easy to sell for parts and to strip. "You've got cars like the (Acura) Integra, the (Audi) Quattro, the (Subaru) Impreza and the (Honda) Civic -- these are cars that are sporty and desirable, so if they're easy to steal they're going to take them," he said.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada also said that the estimated additional auto theft costs on insurance premium for each policyholder is $48 which will reach $1.2 billion per year once health care, court, policing, and other expenses are taken into consideration.

Japanâ€™s second largest car manufacturer and producer of quality Acura CL air filter recharge kit, Honda, will be recalling 43,200 Acura RL sedans due to a faulty power steering hose that may crack from engine heat leading to fire accident.
The said recall will affect 2005-2008 models as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on their website just recently.
Honda said that it is very important to fix the cracked hose since it can release a volatile fluid onto a hot catalytic converter that may cause fire. There were already two reports of fires in Japan that has triggered for an internal investigation and finally to a recall based on the report posted by NHTSA on its web site.
Honda has started notifying affected owners and according to the letter from William Willen, lawyer of Hondaâ€™s Torrance, California-based US unit dealers will install a heat-resistant hose. Aside from Honda, Volvo will also recall 37,000 (2007-08) XC90 sport utility vehicles while Suzuki will conduct a recall of some 40,424 (2006-07) Grand Vitara SUVs that is according to NHTSA.
The problem with XC90 is its climate-control module that is feared to shut down after the ignition key is inserted thereby disabling the defroster during cold weather and reducing visibility said NHTSA.
Dan Johnston, US spokesman for Volvo in Rockleigh, New Jersey has confirmed the recall but declined to comment any further on the matter.
The recall called by Suzuki for its Grand Vitara is caused by a faulty automatic transmission that slip out of park once the engine is shut off causing for a vehicle to roll off causing a crash that is according to NHTSA. Beth Borozan, US spokeswoman for Hamamatsu, Japan-based Suzuki, has confirmed the said recall but also declined to make any comment on the subject.
Hondaâ€™s Car Sales in China Up by 36 Percent in November Aside from the recall, Honda has also announced that they have sold around 46,226 vehicles in China during the month of November up by 36.4% from the 33,881 in the same month last year.
The carmaker also said in a statement that it has sold around 378,602 vehicles for the period covering from January to November up from the previous 287,709 units sold or 31.6 percent in the same period last year.
Hondaâ€™s 50-50 joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. has sold 114,482 vehicles from January to November which has more than doubled the previously reported sales of 54,685 in the same period last year.
Likewise, Hondaâ€™s 50-50 joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., has sold 264,120 vehicles for the first 11 months of this year up by 13.3 percent from 233,024 in the same period last year.

Honda Motor Co., a Japanese motorcycle and automobile maker, is planning to invest JPV 30 billion to build an engine plant in Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong Province.Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Honda Motor Co. and China's Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd., aims to begin the production in the new plant by 2009. The plan is to boost the company's engine production capacity in China - the world's second largest car market.The new plant will be sustained with highly advance equipment. The company primarily plans to use the plant in making 2.4 L and 1.3 L engines, which will be fitted to several major Honda vehicles, including the Accord, Odyssey and Fit.
